VBS 2018 VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTIONS

Come use your talent, skills and experience in showing kids what daily life was like in Babylon. No experience? No worries! We will show you exactly what to do. Join us as we explore what life was like for Daniel and his friends, captives in a strange land. You will help children craft cool projects in the Marketplace, laugh with them as you play Bible-time games, visit with Daniel and eat some interesting food.

VBS will take place the week of July 16-20 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. (eastern time) with Celebration Sunday, July 22 at 10:30 a.m. There is no cost involved and open to all children ages three through sixth grade.

VBS TRAINING: Training will take place immediately following Bible Study on Wednesday, June 20th in the Fellowship Room. It is important that all volunteers attend. You are "valued" and we appreciate your time and service. Thank you!

Glance over the below descriptions and see which area(s) you would like to plug into. List these areas at the bottom of this form along with your contact information before submitting and someone will contact you. (If the list of names are equal to the number needed as provided in parenthesis, please choose another available position or choose OTHER below).

TRIBE LEADERS (10 adults and 10 teens) ADULTS: Jessica Gabberd, Michael Gabberd, Terry Chapman (3) TEENS: Holton Hammons, Noah Sawhill, Bethany Griswell, Weston Barron (4)

Tribe leaders will be responsible for children within their group (about ten children) and will lead to different stations each night during VBS. Tribe leaders will consist of one adult and one teen leader per group.
SHOP KEEPERS (12 adults) Ashley Barron, Janie Butler, Michelle Barron, Tom Barron, Debra Barron

There will be two leaders assigned to each shop/craft tent. Each shop keeper will be responsible for setting up its own craft tent on Sunday, July 15 after the conclusion of the morning church service. You will need to wear Babylon attire during VBS week which will be provided for you. Duties will be to instruct and help children with their craft (10 children per rotation). At the end of each day you will be responsible for organizing, cleaning your tent and preparing for the next day.
FOOD HELPERS (6 adults) Kelly Flagg, Rita Flagg, Judy Williams, Gretchen Denio, Melanie Sawhill, Amy Mills

Food helpers will be responsible for preparing and serving food to the children each night of VBS.
VOLUNTEER FOOD HELPERS (4 adults) Sandy Motos, Meaghan Denney

Volunteer food helpers are responsible for preparing and setting up the Volunteer Dinner Buffet each night. Volunteers will be eating at different times throughout the night. Your job is to replenish the food, tidy up the food table and clean up after the dinner each night of VBS.
REGISTRATION (4 adults on the first day and 2 adults second - fifth day) Janet Thomas, Amy Tankersley, Fiona Cornelius, Amy Mills

Responsible for registering children that have not been pre-registered. Each child will receive a name tag and be assigned to a tribe. The first two days of VBS are hectic and you must arrive 45 minutes prior to the start of VBS to get your station prepared.
STORY TIME ACTORS (2 Adults) Rodney Shirley & Daniel Griswell

Story time actors: two male volunteers who are courageous enough to act out various parts during the Bible story time, "Daniel's Adventures". A different script will be provided for you to learn for each night of VBS. The tribes will visit story time from 6:55 to 8:30. You will be acting out the story for approximately 30 children at a time. There will be three rotations each day lasting thirty minutes each. Your script will be provided to you several weeks before VBS starts so you will have plenty of time to learn your lines.
Story Time Actors Will Include:
(I) Daniel (1 adult male),
(II) Ashpenaz (1 adult male),
STORY TIME LEADERS (Amy Mills) & Story Time Helpers (Emily Griswell & Amy Mills)

Story time helper is responsible for "behind the scenes" of story time. Helping to create two separate sets that will be used during story time. Assisting the actors with their costumes and straightening up the set after each rotation. Every night after the last rotation you will be responsible for preparing the set for the next day.
CELEBRATION LEADER (1 adult) Tara Howard, Tiffany Cook

Celebration leader is responsible for leading the daily Worship sessions each night. The first session is from 6:40 to 6:55 and the second session is from 8:40 to 8:55. You will be responsible for teaching the songs and motions to the children and tribe leaders. Your duties include making announcements, interacting with children during Worship time, reviewing the daily Bible points, and opening and closing in prayer each day. A costume will be provided for you to wear during VBS week.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITY LEADERS (4 adults)

Outdoor activity helper is responsible for playing outdoor games. There will be approximately 30 children in each rotation with three rotations each night. You will be provided with a pamphlet of games and instructions for each night. Duties include setting up the games each day before VBS starts and cleaning up the games each night after your last rotation.
TIME KEEPER (1 Adult) Pam Cooner

Time keeper is responsible for keeping time each day and will have a table set up in the Marketplace. You will work along with the Director (Ginger) in notifying all stations when it is time to rotate by ringing a bell.
PRE-SCHOOL HELPER (1 adult)

Pre-school helper is responsible for helping with the pre-school children. You will be provided with age appropriate snacks and crafts to keep them occupied during VBS.
COSTUME HELPER (2 adults) Gayle Denney, Betty LaPlante

Costume helper is responsible for preparing all costumes needed. This includes washing, ironing, folding, hanging and organizing costumes for all children, family leaders and actors. This will be done the week prior to VBS (July 9-14).
PRE-VBS SETUP (10 adults) Gretchen Denio, Emily Griswell, Gena Rutherford

Pre-VBS set up will be responsible for helping Ginger organize and sort all craft items, tribe leader baskets, signs and supplies needed for Babylon VBS. This will be done the week prior to VBS (July 9-14). Times to be announced and will be day time hours.
DECORATION & STAGE SET UP (6 adults) Gena Rutherford, Stanley O'Shields

Decoration and stage set up crew is responsible for helping Ginger create the stage set. This will be done the week prior to VBS (July 9-14). Duties include cutting foam board, painting and building the set. Three men will be needed on July 15 after church to clear the stage and build the PVC pipe frame to hold up the stage decorations.
SET UP CREW (20 adults) Ashley Barron, Amy Tankersley, Gena Rutherford, Chris Denney

Set up crew is responsible for stacking up all chairs against the wall of the sanctuary, setting up tents, tables, chairs and lighting for tents. Decorating tents with fabric to create the Marketplace. This will be done on Sunday July 15 immediately after church.
CLEAN UP CREW (20 adults) Chris Denney, Gretchen Denio

Clean up crew is responsible for cleaning up all VBS supplies and placing them back in the storage building on Saturday, July 21 at 11:00 a.m. in order to prepare sanctuary for church services on Sunday, July 22. This includes removing all tents, tables, fabric, baskets, stage decor, vacuuming floor and resetting chairs.
VBS PHOTOGRAPHER (1) Jenna Oglesby

Responsible for taking photos of the children and volunteers during VBS week. Present memory chip to Pastor Andy on Friday, July 20 to prepare slideshow presentation for Celebration Sunday on July 22.
